Phulax Sustainability was founded on the fundamental belief that the pursuit of sustainability possesses the potential to generate transformative outcomes, fostering positive impacts on the environment, society, and the economy. Under the leadership of Pamela Matovu Nabukeera, our company remains steadfast in its commitment to integrating sustainable practices across diverse sectors in Uganda.
Pamela’s remarkable sustainability journey began when she took on the pivotal role of Environmental and Sustainability Manager at Makerere University. In this role, she spearheaded and championed a wide range of sustainability initiatives, leaving a lasting impact on the university and its surrounding community.
While working at Makerere University, she recognized the importance of continuous learning and international collaboration. She actively engaged with the Sustainability Lab at Bangor University in the UK, which enriched her expertise and broadened her understanding of cutting-edge sustainable practices. This collaboration also empowered her to drive impactful and innovative sustainability solutions. However, as she worked, Pamela identified gaps in sustainability awareness and practices among individuals and organizations.
Motivated by the urgent need for environmental and sustainability awareness in Uganda, Pamela co-founded Phulax Sustainability with Robert Kabega and Nico Ulmer. The company focuses on empowering women entrepreneurs and students in tertiary institutions to embrace sustainability principles and practices.
Today, Pamela and the Phulax Sustainability team are dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs and students while raising awareness about sustainability. Their mission is to create a dynamic and inclusive hub that inspires and equips individuals to become catalysts for sustainability within their respective fields. Through collaboration, education, and advocacy, they strive to foster a sustainable future for all.
